My Night in a Haunted Hotel Room: Part 1

I want to start this by saying that as spiritually in tune as I have been for years, and all of the experiences I have had (positive and negative), this one experience was the first time that I had truly been...I don't want to say tormented, but I can't think of a better word at the moment.
And I think it was my fault. Let me explain.
*Now, for any of you who are struggling with fear in a way that you've been praying to not see anything disturbing, save this post for another day's read when you are at the point that you are working to overcome the fear. Adding to anyone's anxiety over awakening to the spiritual realm is not what I or my mom ever want to do. Awakening is a process and it took years for both of us to be (mostly) comfortable with being in tune.
During our latest road trip to North Carolina, my girls and I stopped for the night at a hotel that's almost at the halfway point. We'd stayed there twice before and felt very safe and comfortable there (bonus: there's an indoor pool so the girls can really stretch and play after hours in the car). When we got to our room during this particular stay, everything felt fine UNTIL I began performing my hotel room cleansing ritual (Praying for protection and clearing of the space, praying for energetic boundaries to be created to keep out ghosts and entities, salt in the four corners of the room, and spraying an essential oil blend with the intention of clearing and protecting).
When I turned my back away from the window, I kid you not, the whole room got a shade darker. It got so dark that I immediately turned to look at the window to see if a cloud had covered the sun - it had not. I thought that was weird, but continued on. The girls and I left the room to head back down to get the rest of our things from the car, and the door would not close properly. The lock on the door wouldn't latch, no matter how many times I closed the door. So, we grabbed our suitcases and went down to the lobby.
When I explained what had happened to the manager and asked for a new room, one of the maintenance men was walking across the lobby, and he went up with us to check out the door. You'd better belief I stared in shock and disbelief when he opened and closed that door three different times, and the lock caught every single time. He turned to look at me, and I asked him do it one more time, because WHAT?! After the door successfully locked once more, he offered us a new room because, "We want you to feel safe here."
Here's where I made a big mistake.
I said we would keep the room. I told him that if it happened again, we would ask for a new room, but since he had come up and demonstrated that the door worked, we would be fine.
So, I tried it on my own a few times after he left. It worked perfectly. Then, after I told my girls that everything was going to be okay and that we were, in fact, going to be safe in the room, the door seemed to be stuck, and it took a few tries to open it this time. I was a little uneasy, but I'm a bit of a paranoid person, and I figured it was just my own anxiety.
I should have taken it as a major sign that the room, and what was in it, did NOT want us staying there.
Stay tuned for part 2 tomorrow! Spoiler alert: it gets spooky!
With love and gratitude,
Kelly
